UPDATED: D.C. Area Commuters, We're Looking Out for You

DC Metro

Are you a federal employee in the Washington, D.C., with commuting headaches? NTEU is working to alleviate the pain for Metro commuters dealing with an aggressive overhaul of the rail system that will shut down portions of every line over the course of a year.

This post has been updated with new information on Metro’s Surge 9 impacting the Orange Line from Sept. 15-Oct. 26. Also, Metro has announced changes to the remaining SafeTrack surge schedule.

As Metro’s extensive repairs cause widespread disruptions and delays, NTEU is asking federal agencies to expand the alternative work schedules and telework benefits we’ve negotiated for employees.

NTEU is pushing agencies to allow more employees to arrive and leave work during non-peak hours. Allowing employees to telework and work longer hours during fewer days in the work week are other solutions we’re advocating.

We also encourage bargaining unit employees to consult their NTEU stewards or other chapter officers for additional information about scheduling flexibilities and telework opportunities that are provided by agency-specific collective bargaining agreements or locally-negotiated supplements. Many Washington, D.C.-area chapters are sponsoring lunch-and-learns and other events to increase awareness of options available to NTEU-represented employees. Please consult your chapter for a schedule of upcoming events. To join the fight for increased flexibilities, those who are not yet NTEU members may fill out a SF-1187 form and submit it to their chapter steward or officer.
