National President Tony Reardon made the case for increased staffing for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in an op-ed in The Hill.

In the column, Reardon urges Congress to adequately fund CBP when lawmakers returns from the August recess to wrap up fiscal 2017 appropriations work.

“More funding for CBP is not a luxury, but a vital necessity for the safety and security of our country, our economy and our food supply,”Readon wrote.

The NTEU leader describes the long lines of cars and people he witnessed firsthand during a recent visit to San Diego area ports, where NTEU members are forced to work significant overtime hours.

“They are doing their part to keep our citizens, our economy and our food supply safe. It’s time for Congress to do its part,” he said.
