What Does a 1978 Law Mean to You? A Fairer Workplace

Imagine if federal jobs could be filled based on whom you know, or you could be fired or promoted based on whom you’re related to. What if managers weren’t required to give employees advance notice before taking disciplinary action—and employees didn’t have the right to respond? And imagine a workplace where you have no right to challenge personnel decisions using the grievance procedure.

This would be a federal workplace without the Civil Service Reform Act, and probably one you wouldn’t want to imagine. Although it was passed nearly 40 years ago, the CSRA provides workplace protections and transparency in government that continue to benefit federal employees today.
