What Were the Top Federal Employee Issues in 2016?

This year, NTEU members sent hundreds of thousands of letters from the Legislative Action Center to their members of Congress.

Wondering what were the most popular issues NTEU members took action on? Here are the top five:

  1. A fair pay raise in 2016

  2. Paid parental leave

  3. Adequate funding for the IRS

  4. Protecting federal employee pay and benefits

  5. Protecting agency funding

NTEU members didn’t stop here. They made thousands of phone calls and visited their lawmakers to advocate for federal employees and promote NTEU’s legislative agenda. Members made their voices heard leading up to the election, holding voter registration drives, volunteering on campaigns, attending rallies, and candidate meet-and-greets.

What’s next for 2017? The Legislative Advisory Committee will meet next month to review the wide range of issues facing federal employees so it can recommend a legislative agenda for the union.

Throughout the year, NTEU will continue to educate members on these pressing issues and provide legislative alerts when action is needed on new federal employee issues or legislation. By having a strong and active collective voice, NTEU members can make a difference in both promoting positive legislation and stopping harmful attacks on the federal workforce.
