Information is one of the most important benefits of NTEU membership—and Chapter 335 (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) members recently got plenty of it.
CFPB employees from around the country are gathering in Washington, D.C., this week for the agency’s annual “all hands” training meeting. It’s not often that Chapter 335 (CFPB) members are in the same place at the same time—particularly with Bank Examiners frequently on the road—so Chapter President Gail Wisely (pictured above) took the opportunity to get members together for a meeting and question-and-answer session.
Around 120 Chapter 335 members spent their lunch hour on Wednesday getting updates on legislation, bargaining and workplace representational issues from chapter leaders and NTEU staff. Members got the latest update on negotiations over the first-ever CFPB national agreement. Among other issues, NTEU is advocating for provisions that will address travel issues frequently raised by NTEU members concerning the use of privately-owned vehicles.
They learned more about NTEU’s aggressive work on Capitol Hill opposing the so-called “Choice Act,” which would severely weaken CFPB and other NTEU-represented financial regulatory agencies that protect American investors and depositors. Members also heard about NTEU’s fight against proposals that would cut their take-home pay and retirement benefits.
Stewards briefed members on NTEU’s representational work at the agency, where the union is working on cases involving fair career ladder promotions, credit hours and ensuring the Examiner Commissioning Program is fair and transparent.
“What good are words on paper if management isn’t going to follow them?” said Chief Steward Jerome Hardy, when talking about the daily work of NTEU stewards.
Throughout the conference, Chapter 335 leaders have been meeting one-on-one with members who have concerns or questions about workplace issues.
The chapter also hosted a social event Wednesday evening where members had a chance to donate to TEPAC, NTEU’s political action committee which supports pro-federal employee members of Congress and candidates.
