A Labor Day Message from President Reardon

Samuel Gompers, one our country's first labor leaders, called Labor Day a time for workers to rest, look forward to tomorrow's work, stand in solidarity with other workers and "feel the stronger for it."

At NTEU, we believe there is a direct connection between strong unions and a strong America. We all benefit today from generations of hardworking Americans who organized together and stood up not only for the idea of fairness for themselves, but for the person standing next to them. It was those fights that yielded some of the most important benefits and protections we take for granted today—like the 40-hour work week, Social Security, pensions, weekends, Family and Medical Leave, overtime pay, workers’ compensation and much more.

For nearly 80 years, NTEU and our members have built on this legacy by improving the working lives of all federal employees. It’s your passion, skills and commitment that fuel NTEU’s unrelenting drive to ensure federal workplaces reflect your worth and dignity. Our job is to protect and advance federal workers and your agency missions, and to provide a voice in what you do every day.

On Labor Day and every day, be proud of all you do for your country both as a federal employee and NTEU member. Thank you for your continued service.
