Furloughed Federal Employees to be Paid

Federal employees who work night shifts and were furloughed due to this latest shutdown will receive back pay under legislation that was signed into law today, a key goal for NTEU.

While this second shutdown lasted just a few hours, there were federal employees who were furloughed after a lapse in appropriations at midnight. Separate from the budget agreement, Congress acted to ensure back pay for furloughed workers.

What’s next for Congress now that the two-year budget deal has been signed into law? The agreement establishes overall spending levels, leaving Congress six weeks—until March 23— to determine and act upon specific appropriations for agencies for the remainder of this fiscal year.

NTEU will be engaged in the appropriations process to secure adequate funding for the agencies we represent.
