Spending Deal Signed

Congress worked through the night with the Senate and then the House passing the bipartisan budget agreement. The final vote came early this morning hours after appropriations lapsed. The president signed the measure into law a few hours later, officially ending the government shutdown.

The Office of Management and Budget released a memo instructing federal agencies to reopen all government operations. The memo further instructed federal employees who were on furlough to return to work. 

Unless employees have pre-approved leave on February 9 or it is a regularly scheduled day off, they should return to work. 

NTEU understands the president is to sign a separate measure later today assuring back pay for those individuals who were furloughed during the shutdown. Read more
