NTEU is reminding our members that you can use your tax-free Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover seasonal essentials so you can enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature.
FSAs allow employees to set aside money from their paychecks before it is taxed to pay for out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses. Annual savings could reach into the thousands of dollars, depending on an employee’s tax bracket and the amount of money set aside.
Tax-free FSA dollars can cover items including sunscreen, first aid kits and nasal spray. Other items that may be FSA-eligible with a doctor’s prescription include allergy medicine, eye drops and certain anti-itch treatments.
FSAs were initially available only in the private sector until NTEU worked successfully to bring them to the federal workforce in 2003.
