Chapter 97 (IRS Fresno Service Center) isn’t afraid to mix work and fun.

After getting energized at NTEU’s Legislative Conference, the chapter brought back what they learned while also adding their own flair.

Led by President Jason Sisk, the chapter has been holding a popular monthly event called “Send a Letter/Share a Letter” in which members can earn raffle tickets for each letter sent to their members of Congress from the NTEU’s Legislative Action Center. The large volume of emails generated from the campaign—on issues ranging from pay and retirement to workplace rights—has garnered attention on Capitol Hill, including from Rep. Jim Costa (D-Calif.) who recently visited the chapter.

The chapter also proved that they are “NTEU Strong.” Literally. Over the past several weeks, around 50 Chapter 97 members pledged to walk 10,000 steps a day as part of Feds Get Fit, a nationwide program promoting a healthy lifestyle. While the program officially ended last month, many chapter members have continued to spend their lunch breaks walking, including Austin Orrell. A chapter celebrity of sorts, Orrell not only dresses as Santa at the chapter’s holiday dinner each year but has also played the role in a holiday movie.

A group of members who work in Submission Processing also seized a chance to show their NTEU pride during twin day in the office. They donned matching NTEU shirts and topped off the look with NTEU blue hair.

“There is power in solidarity,” said National President Tony Reardon. “Chapter 97 understands that federal employees are stronger together and is constantly thinking of creative ways to get our members engages and involved.”
