House Passes Funding Bill; Senate Passage Not Likely

In response to the president’s announcement that he would not sign the Senate-passed continuing resolution, House Republican leaders crafted a revised short-term funding measure today that would keep agencies funded through Feb. 8 with the addition of $5.7 billion in border wall procurement and construction funds.

The House has passed the measure by a vote of 217- 185. It is expected that the Senate will take up this measure next, but be unable to pass it, greatly increasing the risk of a partial government shutdown Friday night.

We are potentially only one day out from the third government shutdown of 2018. Employees at impacted agencies will go unpaid and many will have planned leave and holiday schedules significantly disrupted if a shutdown occurs. NTEU strongly supports and is advocating for Senator Cardin’s (D-Md.) legislation to ensure back pay for furloughed employees in the event of a shutdown and to allow all employees to take scheduled leave, as well as similar bipartisan legislation sponsored by Reps. Don Beyer (D-Va.) and Rob Wittman (R-Va.).

NTEU will keep you updated as the White House and Congress barrel toward the current CR’s Friday night deadline with no funding agreement in place. Visit our Shutdown resources page
