Employees may be eligible for unemployment compensation depending upon the number of consecutive furlough days. Generally, you must be unemployed for a minimum of 7 days to be eligible for unemployment compensation but the laws vary by state.

If you get approved for benefits, some states require that you serve a waiting week, which means that the first week after a claim is filed is an unpaid week.
