NTEU Celebrates EPA’s 49th Birthday

Today marks the 49th birthday of the Environmental Protection Agency, and NTEU is proud to represent employees whose mission is to protect human health and the environment.

Created out of increasing concern over air and water pollution, dramatized by such disasters as Ohio’s Cuyahoga River bursting into flames, the EPA is charged with ensuring that Americans have access to clean air, water and land.

Over its 49 years, the EPA has banned certain dangerous pesticides like DDT, required the cleanup of toxic waste sites and began regulating auto emissions.

NTEU works to protect the ability of EPA scientists to continue groundbreaking research that enhances and protects our country’s ability to advance our understanding of how to improve our environment.
