Funding Negotiations Continue Ahead of Dec 20. Deadline

Congressional leaders continue to work to resolve spending bill disputes as the clock ticks toward Dec. 20, when the current continuing resolution (CR) expires.

Negotiators are still trying to reach a deal on the 12 fiscal 2020 funding bills. Without one, Congress will need to pass another full or partial CR to avoid a second shutdown this year.

Votes could take place early next week. Administration officials and congressional leaders announced that there are around 100 outstanding issues across the 12 bills they will try to resolve before another meeting tomorrow. If an agreement is reached, lawmakers plan to divide the 12 bills in two packages, which would need to pass both chambers and be signed by the president before Dec. 20 to avoid a shutdown.

NTEU continues to work with congressional supporters to keep agencies open, provide a competitive pay raise for 2020 and protect federal employee collective bargaining rights.
