NTEU Chapters Helping Their Community

Several NTEU chapters are hoping to pay it forward to businesses that helped them during the 35-day government shutdown.

Chapter 67 (IRS Ogden Campus) President Robert Lawrence has found instead of feeling helpless, his members are looking for ways to help the restaurants and other area businesses that once supported them.

“We have sent out emails and Facebook posts and texts,” said Lawrence. “Our E-board  also recently voted to donate a small sum as a token or a gesture of gratitude for their ongoing support.”

At Chapter 22 (IRS Philadelphia), Chapter President Horatio Fenton and Vice President Nurel Storey are sending similar emails to their members, including the following tips for supporting a favorite restaurant or business:

-Purchase gift cards and continue to use take-out and food delivery services.

-Shop local businesses online.

-Stay home if you’re sick so you don’t infect others in your community.

-Be patient. Most places are working at a reduced capacity, which means longer wait times or out-of-stock items.

-Say thank you. Many NTEU members, including those in Chapters 22 and 67, work in customer service and know how stressful that can be in this current climate.
