When is the IRS Sending Your Stimulus Check?

Today, around 80 million Americans will receive their stimulus checks by direct deposit from the IRS, according to the Treasury Department.

The IRS will send $1,200 payments to individuals with an adjusted gross income below $75,000, and $2,400 to married couples filing taxes jointly who earn less than $150,000. Checks of $500 will be sent for each qualifying child. The payments are being made first to eligible individuals who have already filed their 2019 or 2018 tax returns, and who have authorized direct deposit.

Others, including those who haven't filed returns, will have to wait longer for their payments. Today, the IRS launched an online stimulus payment tracker called “Get My Payment”-a tool will help eligible Americans determine when they will receive their payments.

NTEU salutes the IRS employees who are working during this difficult time to process these stimulus payments. NTEU continues to press the administration to further extend the tax filing deadline to Oct. 15 to alleviate the strain on IRS employees processing returns and allow the agency to temporarily close facilities for thorough cleaning.
