NTEU Chapter 60 Feeds New Jersey Emergency Room Staff

Chapter 60 (IRS New Jersey) members wanted to show their appreciation for the frontline medical workers in New Jersey, one of the states hardest hit by coronavirus.

“I thought about last year when we were furloughed, and the people and businesses that stepped up to provide assistance and food to our members and federal employees as whole when they needed it. We wanted to give back,” said Chapter 60 President John Kelshaw.

And that’s what Chapter 60 did. The chapter had 20 pizzas from a local restaurant delivered to emergency room workers at Morristown Medical Center where the chapter treasurer’s spouse is a nurse.  This act of saying “thank you” served a dual purpose of supporting a local business and feeding the tireless staff at the hospital’s emergency room.

The chapter is now working with Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) to do this again at a neighboring hospital.

The support of Chapter 60 members and Executive Board for finding a way to show appreciation to medical workers in their communities led Kelshaw to remark that “today may be the best day I have had as president yet.”

It’s no surprise that NTEU members are making a difference—at work and through their local chapters—during these unprecedented times.
