Chapter 26 Offers Employee Safety Kits

With many employees feeling anxious and concerned about the prospect of returning to federal buildings, NTEU Chapter 26 (IRS Georgia) is taking steps to help make the transition back a little safer.

Chapter leadership has been busy assembling small safety kits with masks, gloves, sanitizers and disinfectants it has been able to purchase online.

As agency-wide emails began to circulate about the availability of necessary cleaning supplies across different posts of duty, Chapter 26 President Terry Scott and Vice President LaKisha Murphy knew they had to do something to protect their members and colleagues.

“We had two events everyone loves canceled this year—including our annual chapter picnic—so we thought let’s use the money we allocated to protect people,” said Scott.

As part of the chapter’s robust communications during the coronavirus pandemic, leaders asked if members would be interested or in need of critical safety supplies when it comes time to return to the building. The responses poured in, with more than 100 employees and counting eager to receive a Chapter 26 safety kit.

“We just want to help our people in any way we can, and if we can provide some small assistance, then we’re going to do it,” said Scott.
