ICYMI: House Approves Protection for Unused Annual Leave

The House approved a legislative provision that would allow federal employees to carry over more unused annual leave into 2021.

Sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) and added to the defense policy bill, federal employees serving during the pandemic would be permitted to ‘roll over’ unused annual leave at the end of the year. Currently, most federal employees are only allowed to roll over 240 hours of paid annual leave per year.

NTEU strongly supports this, urging Congress to provide relief to federal employees facing canceled travel or vacation plans because of stay-at-home orders and the closing of hotels and other businesses. We are now urging the Senate to follow the House in approving the provision.
