IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service to Help with Stimulus Payment Corrections

Starting Monday, Aug. 10, NTEU-represented employees at the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will begin helping some taxpayers still waiting to receive their correct stimulus payments.


Since the pandemic began, TAS has been working with taxpayers on issues and concerns not related to Economic Impact Payments (EIPs). Due to limited IRS operations, TAS employees could not address concerns with EIP issues, but that is about to change. Now that the IRS has a process for resolving EIP cases, TAS will begin accepting cases for taxpayers who fall into one of five different scenarios. For some taxpayers, this will mean they won’t have to wait until next year’s tax-filing season to have their EIP corrected.

NTEU is proud to represent employees at TAS and throughout the IRS who have been working during these challenging times to issue stimulus payments, manage the extended tax-filing season and help taxpayers with issues.
