Update from Capitol Hill

Negotiations between the House and Senate continue this week on a final funding bill for the current fiscal year.

Funding runs out on Friday when the current continuing resolution expires. There is a chance Congress may pass a one-week extension to give lawmakers more time to finalize the large omnibus bill.

At stake in the discussions are funding levels for federal agencies. No individual appropriations bills have been passed by Congress.

The federal pay raise for 2021 is also part of the talks. NTEU is pushing for a fair pay raise, adequate funding and timely action to avoid a government shutdown.

At the same time, Congress is considering another coronavirus relief bill that may be wrapped up in the omnibus.

The Defense Authorization bill is expected to be voted on this week. That legislation contains NTEU-supported language allowing federal employees to carry over additional unused annual leave.

NTEU will provide regular updates as the different bills take shape and move through the legislative process.
