Federal Employees Get Dec. 24 Off

The president issued an executive order today closing the federal government on Thursday, Dec. 24, giving federal employees the day off.

In some years, presidents have given federal employees an extra vacation day or half-day on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.

The order notes that “certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2020, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.”
