NTEU Supports the PRO Act

NTEU is strongly supporting legislation the House is considering this week that would protect and strengthen the ability of private sector workers to join unions.

In a letter, National President Tony Reardon urged House members to support the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (H.R. 842), which would strengthen federal labor law so that private-sector workers have more protections and a greater ability to organize and bargain collectively. This legislation would prohibit employers from interfering in union elections, strengthen penalties for companies that coerce or intimidate workers, and establish mediation and binding arbitration when the employer and workers cannot agree on a first contract.

While NTEU represents federal sector employees who are not covered by the bill, the union proudly stands with employees in the private sector in support of their freedom to organize and bargain collectively to improve their working conditions.

Here is a statement from National President Tony Reardon:

I am heartened by President Biden’s statement of support of the Pro Act. I am proud that he kept his campaign promise to fight for  collective bargaining rights not just for federal employees but for all  American workers. While NTEU represents employees in the federal sector and is not covered by this bill, we proudly stand with our brothers and sisters at the AFL-CIO and other unions representing employees in the private sector in support of the fundamental right to freedom of association. Workers should be able to exercise their right to form and join unions without risking dismissal and retribution. On behalf of all American workers, we urge Congress to pass this bill.
