Votes on Government Funding Pushed to Thursday

The Senate is expected to vote Thursday on a continuing resolution that would maintain agency funding through Dec. 3 and avoid a government shutdown on Friday, the start of the new fiscal year.

Once the CR is approved by the Senate, it goes to the House for consideration. As long as the president signs it by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday night, there will be no lapse in appropriations and the government will remain open.

There are indications that the CR will have bipartisan support now that Congress has agreed to address the debt limit in separate legislation.

NTEU has been speaking publicly about the harm that shutdowns cause federal employees and all taxpayers. Union members are encouraged to contact their senators and representatives to urge support for the CR, as well as year-long agency funding levels that provide agencies with adequate resources.
