House Passes Continuing Resolution; Senate Votes Next

The House has approved a continuing resolution that will maintain government funding levels through Feb. 18, 2022. The vote was 221-212, and the measure now goes to the Senate.

The CR must be signed into law before midnight Friday to avoid a government shutdown. If the Senate agrees on an expedited schedule, the CR could pass quickly and prevent a lapse in appropriations.

Despite assurances from Senate Republican leadership that a shutdown will be avoided, it remains possible that a handful of Senate Republicans could force a delay.

NTEU strongly encourages Congress to approve the CR. This would avoid any disruption in services to taxpayers and give lawmakers time to negotiate a longer-term spending agreement that sets agency funding levels for the remainder of the 2022 fiscal year.
