Use Your FSA for Summer Essentials

Many Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) participants submit claims for summer items like:

• First aid kits

• Sunscreen (SPF15+)

• Prescription sunglasses

• Over-the-counter allergy and sinus medicine

FSAs allow employees to set aside money from their paychecks before it is taxed to pay for out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses. Annual savings could reach into the thousands of dollars, depending on an employee’s tax bracket and the amount of money set aside.

FSAs were initially available only in the private sector until NTEU worked successfully to bring this money-saving benefit to the federal workforce in 2003.
