Legendary Columnist and Federal Workforce Expert Mike Causey Dies

NTEU mourns the loss of legendary columnist Mike Causey, who wrote about the federal workforce for decades at the Washington Post and Federal News Network.

Causey died Monday at the age of 82, according to Federal News Network.

Federal employees across the country depended on Causey’s columns for plain-spoken analysis of issues that mattered most to them, including pay, retirement and health insurance. And for every astute insight there was a delightful anecdote to go with it, making his columns essential reading on most weekday mornings.

“Mike’s charming personality and journalistic talent will be deeply missed,” said NTEU National President Tony Reardon.

NTEU members had a special connection to Causey. In the 1960s, before he joined the Washington Post, Causey wrote the “Washington Window” column for the NTEU Bulletin. Throughout his long career, Causey would frequently interview NTEU leaders about the union’s work, and he was the guest speaker at the NTEU National Convention in 2017.
