Congress Clears Funding Bill

The House has joined the Senate in approving a Continuing Resolution (CR) to extend government funding through Dec.16. Current funding runs out today at midnight.

The president is expected to sign the CR to avoid a lapse in funding.

In addition to the short-term extension of government funding, the CR includes additional funding to cover the user fee shortfall for CBP and a five-year extension of several FDA user fees that are set to expire at the end of the fiscal year. This will prevent as many as 3,500 NTEU-represented employees at FDA being furloughed. Further, per NTEU’s request to key congressional leaders, it provides a needed increase for administrative expenses at the Social Security Administration.

NTEU is already looking ahead to a final funding agreement and we are pressing for adequate funding for our agencies as well as for a pay increase for federal employees.
