NTEU Adds 155 To FDIC Bargaining Units In Two Divisions In Boston, New York And Chicago

Press Release February 10, 2000

Washington, D.C.-The National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) said today it has won election as the exclusive bargaining representative for all previously-unrepresented employees of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in two major divisions in Boston, New York and Chicago. The win adds another 155 federal employees to the ranks of the more than 3,000 already represented by NTEU in FDIC.

The vote among the eligible employees in the FDIC Division of Supervision (DOS) and Division of Compliance and Consumer Affairs (DCA) was 88 to 22 in favor of the union.

NTEU President Colleen M. Kelley welcomed the vote and said it would "help in NTEU's continuing efforts to make sure that the voices of all FDIC employees are heard on the issues they confront in the workplace."

NTEU bargains a compensation agreement with FDIC, since the agency operates on revenues generated from the banking industry it regulates. Negotiations on a new multi-year agreement recently were concluded.

Employees at FDIC operations in Boston, New York and Chicago, other than those involved in today's vote, were the first at that agency to secure NTEU representation. They were joined in mid-1977 by FDIC employees in five other regions of the country.
