NTEU understands and supports the critical mission of the Department of Homeland Security. To that end, we look forward to working with Michael Chertoff, President Bush’s nominee as DHS Secretary, to secure that mission in ways that recognize, utilize and respect the expertise, skill and dedication to duty of DHS employees. NTEU also looks forward to an early meeting and an open and full dialogue with the incoming Secretary on the full range of issues affecting DHS employees, particularly given the impending publication of new personnel rules for the agency. These rules will go far beyond the lives of agency employees to touch every American in vital and real ways. We look forward to working with Secretary-nominee Chertoff to ensure the success of the Department of Homeland Security.
