Statement of NTEU President Colleen M. Kelley on the Nomination of Linda M. Springer as Director of the Office of Personnel Management

Press Release March 18, 2005

NTEU looks forward to hearing Linda Springer’s views on a number of issues important to the federal workforce including personnel rules, employee rights, fair retirement benefits and affordable health care for federal employees and retirees.

The role of OPM is extremely important to federal employees and the nominee would take charge at a time when half of the federal workforce is facing a dramatic change in working rules and conditions and I look forward to learning more about her perspective on human resources management at her confirmation hearing.

This position is central to ensuring that agencies have the tools they need to attract and retain high-quality employees and it is imperative that the OPM leader have the experience, qualifications and leadership skills to meet the formidable challenges facing the federal workforce.
