Approval by a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee of a 3.5 percent federal pay raise in 2008 is further welcome recognition in Congress of the importance of a fair pay raise to the ability of federal agencies to recruit and retain the high-quality employees they need and depend upon. NTEU is working to secure approval of this pay raise, which is half-a-percentage point higher than proposed by the administration, when the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill comes before the full Senate Appropriations Committee. The full House already has approved a 3.5 percent pay raise for 2008. This pay raise is critical because of the meager increase federal employees received last year.
