Statement of President Colleen M. Kelley on Senate Subcommittee Approval of 3.5% Military Pay Raise

Press Release September 11, 2007

The Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee has taken an important and welcome step in approving a 3.5 percent pay raise for members in the military in 2008. This action, which would provide a pay raise half-a-percentage point higher than proposed by the White House, was taken in the markup of the fiscal 2008 Defense Appropriations bill. It is the latest show of bipartisan congressional support in the House and Senate for a 3.5 percent raise for both members of the military and those in the civilian workforce. By their day-to-day efforts on behalf of all Americans, each of these groups of federal employees serves our country and plays an important role in defending our nation. They deserve a fair pay increase that reflects their continuing contributions. NTEU will keep up its effort to ensure a 3.5 percent raise in 2008 for those in the military and their families as well as those who serve in the civilian federal workforce.
