Statement of President Colleen M. Kelley National Treasury Employees Union On the Ninth Anniversary Of the Oklahoma City Bombing

Press Release April 16, 2004

In a treacherous and dangerous world it is reassuring that we are able to rely with confidence, as we have for so long, on those who devote themselves to public service.

On this ninth anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, we remember—with pride and thanks for their lives and for their roles in the lives of others—the 168 women, men and children murdered in that horrific attack.

Many of those who died served their fellow Americans as members of the federal workforce. They are honored each day by the work of the 1.7 million federal employees in communities across the United States who understand that service to others truly is a calling unto itself.

We mourn. We care. We remember.
