Tony Reardon Elected as NTEU’s Next National President

Press Release August 11, 2015

Hollywood, Fla.—The National Treasury Employees Union’s (NTEU) next leader will be Tony Reardon, a 25-year NTEU veteran who most recently served as the union’s National Executive Vice President.

Delegates to NTEU’s 55th national convention chose Reardon today to serve as the union’s next National President.

Reardon received 89 percent of the votes cast and will replace Colleen M. Kelley, who is retiring after serving as NTEU’s top elected official since 1999.

“I am honored and humbled by the confidence placed in me by NTEU delegates. I am committed to building on Colleen’s legacy and strengthening NTEU’s role as the voice of the federal workforce on Capitol Hill, at the agencies, in the media and in the courts,” Reardon said.

Reardon further stated, “Our members do critical work for our country and I will fight for them and be vigorous in my defense of them. I promise to work hard each day to help them realize their aspirations for the future.”

The NTEU president-elect promised to work with NTEU chapter leaders and members to define and construct a shared vision for NTEU’s future, one that prepares the union to meet the challenges ahead.

He believes strongly that federal employees deserve fair pay and a secure retirement and is committed to ensuring they can rely on fair promotion and appraisal systems and have the tools and resources they need to do their jobs.

Reardon’s NTEU career began 25 years ago, when he was hired to serve as the union’s Operations Manager. As Chief Operating Executive, he was responsible for NTEU’s day-to-day operations including finance, technology and member services. In 2013, he became NTEU’s National Executive Vice President, the union’s second-highest elected position.

A veteran negotiator, Reardon has led NTEU bargaining teams that have secured some of the best employee contracts anywhere in the federal government. He has also been a key strategic planner and worked closely with chapter leaders and members to advance NTEU’s objectives and ensure that federal employees are treated with dignity and respect.

NTEU delegates also chose Jim Bailey to serve as National Executive Vice President.

Bailey has also worked for NTEU throughout his professional career.

He started out as an assistant counsel in Chicago and Oakland, Calif., and later opened NTEU’s Denver field office, where he served as National Counsel for 18 years. Eight years ago, he was named Director of Field Operations and split his time between Denver and Washington, D.C.

He has collaborated with local chapters to plan and implement grassroots legislative and political campaigns and oversees NTEU’s training and organizing programs.

The new officers will be sworn in Aug. 13, the closing day of NTEU’s convention.

As the nation’s largest independent federal union, NTEU represents 150,000 employees in 31 agencies and departments.
